A detached garage sitting even thirty or forty feet from the router, especially behind another structure's walls, can sit outside a home network's reliable range even though the house itself has strong coverage everywhere indoors. Installers handle this a few common ways: confirming the existing network actually reaches the spot where the controller will live, adding a mesh point or extender to close the gap, or in some cases running the outbuilding's system on its own small access point if the distance or interference is too much to fix with a repeater. None of that is exotic, it is the same kind of fix a smart doorbell or an outdoor camera would need in the same spot, but it has to be checked before install day rather than discovered after, since a controller with no reliable signal will not hold a schedule or take a scene change from the app.

Does the Garage Have to Match the House Exactly?

If the goal is one property that reads as a single lit composition at night, the garage and house need to share the same color temperature and a similar spacing rhythm along their rooflines, not necessarily identical brightness or an identical scene on every night. A mismatched white, one roofline running noticeably cooler or warmer than the other, is the fastest way to make two connected systems look like they were installed at different times by different companies, even when they were not. Should the Garage Be Lit at the Same Time as the House, or Added Later?
